The College of Charleston Cougars held a nine-point lead at halftime over Vermont and appeared well on their way to the winner's bracket of the quarterfinals in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Instead, the Cougars fell flat in the second half and were outscored by 18 points in a 73-64 loss. Ben Burnham led the Cougars with 13 points while Ante Brzovic chipped with 12 points and six rebounds. Kobe Rodgers chipped in with 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
Charleston is now just 1-2 on the season as they try to follow a 30-win season. The loss on Thursday afternoon can squarely fall on the team's shooting. The Cougars shot just 3-of-25 from 3-point range for a grand total of 12%. Overall, they shot just 37% from the field in the game. The Cougars had just seven assists in the game as a team. Another discouraging statistic on Thursday was the Cougars 42-40 edge in rebounding. Last year, the Cougars were third in the nation in rebounding while Vermont finished 328th in the nation.
