Central Michigan Chippewas (1-3) vs. Toledo Rockets (2-2)

Week 5 of the 2022 college football season goes on Saturday, October 1, with the Mid-American Conference showdown from Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio, so we bring you the best Central Michigan vs. Toledo betting pick and odds.

The Chippewas aim for their second straight victory over the Rockets. Last year, Central Michigan outlasted Toledo 26-23 as a 5-point home dog. The Chippewas are 7-point road underdogs this time around, while the Rockets are -275 moneyline favorites with a total of 56.5 points.

The Central Michigan Chippewas are coming off a 33-14 defeat at the No. 14 Penn State Nittany Lions in Week 4. They covered a huge 28-point spread but couldn’t avoid their second straight defeat away from home. The Chippewas lost the turnover battle 4-0, and sophomore QB Daniel Richardson went just 26-of-45 for 235 yards and a couple of touchdowns and interceptions before exiting with a shoulder injury. Freshman Jase Bauer completed three of his seven passing attempts for 40 yards in relief.

“I'm proud of the way our team fought,” Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain said. “I thought the guys never quit. That team on the other side knew what the Chippewas were all about toward the end of that game and that's something that makes me proud.”

Through the first four weeks, Daniel Richardson has thrown for 1,124 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions. Senior wideout Carlos Carriere and junior tight end Joel Wilson have combined for 479 yards and four touchdowns, while sophomore RB Lew Nichols leads the backfield with 84 carries for 325 yards and five touchdowns.

The Chippewas are racking up 144.5 rushing yards per game (84th in the nation) and 4.3 yards per rush (tied-73rd). They are yielding 32.3 points per game (103rd) on 283.3 passing yards (116th) and 118.8 rushing yards (47th). CMU is surrendering just 3.4 yards per carry (tied-42nd).
