The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The Panthers are led by head coach Frank Reich, who is entering his first season with the team.

The Panthers finished the 2022 season with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year. They ranked 29th in total offense and 22nd in total defense. They had some bright spots, such as running back tandem D’Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard who combined for 1,380 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

The Panthers made some notable moves in the offseason starting with drafting Alabama QB Bryce Young with the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They also traded for or singed veteran offensive players DJ Chark, Hayden Hurst, Adam Thielen and Miles Sanders

Carolina Panthers QB Depth Chart

The Panthers are prepared to start #1 overall NFL Draft pick Bryce Young to open up the season but will still compete with veteran Andy Dalton come training camp.

Dalton spent his first nine seasons as a member of the Bengals and has played for three different teams in the last three seasons mostly as a backup (Cowboys, Bears, Saints). The Panthers are hoping Dalton will be a solid mentor for Young in his first NFL season

The third-string quarterback is Matt Corral who was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft and didn’t take a snap as a member of the Panthers last season.

Carolina Panthers RB Depth Chart

The Panthers’ starting running back is Miles Sanders who the Eagles signed to a 4-year $25 million contract in the offseason and is eager to be the bell cow back for Carolina. He rushed for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns last season with the Eagles.

The backup running back is Chuba Hubbard, who was drafted by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2021 draft. Hubbard was a star at Oklahoma State, where he rushed for over 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2019. He rushed for 466 yards last season mostly splitting carries with D’Onta Foreman.

The third-string running back is Raheem Blacksheer, who is in his second season and only rushed for 77 yards last season in minimal time on the field.

Adam Thielen signed a 3-year $25 million contract with the Panthers in the off-season as he’s slated to be the #1 wide receiver in Carolina heading into the 2023 season after playing his first nine seasons with the Vikings. He accumulated 716 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns last season.

DJ Chark also signed as a free agent with Carolina on a 1-year $5 million deal playing 11 games last season while accumulating 502 yards and three touchdowns for Detroit. He spent his first six seasons in Jacksonville.

The third wide receiver is Terrace Marshall Jr., who was drafted by the Panthers in the second round of the 2021 draft. Marshall played for offensive coordinator Joe Brady at LSU and was part of their national championship team in 2019. He had 490 receiving yards last season and only one touchdown.

The other wide receivers on the roster are Jonathan Mingo, Laviska Shenault Jr. and Damiere Byrd. All with no or minimal on field experience.
