The Carolina Hurricanes face the Tampa Bay Lightning with both teams looking to build off great starts to the season. The Hurricanes have an 8-5 record and are in second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Lightning have a 6-4-4 record and are in third place in the Atlantic Division. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Seth Jarvis, and Martin Necas have scored 15 goals and 18 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, and Michael Bunting have combined for 13 goals and 14 assists while defenseman Brady Skjei has added two goals and eight assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.38 goals per game. Brady Skjei and Jaccob Slavin have combined for 2.0 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Antti Raanta has struggled with a .876 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average on 121 shots with -3.3 goals saved above average.
