Carolina Hurricanes (1-0-0) vs. San Jose Sharks (0-2-0)
The Carolina Hurricanes start a five-game road trip on the west coast Friday, October 14, with the non-conference clash against the San Jose Sharks. The Canes head to SAP Center at San Jose as firm -193 moneyline favorites, while the totals opened at 6.0 goals.
Last season, Carolina and San Jose split their two-game series, and each team emerged victorious at home. The Hurricanes beat the Sharks 2-1 as -280 favorites but lost 2-1 in overtime as -160 favorites in California.
The Carolina Hurricanes opened the 2022-23 season on a high note, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 as heavy -280 home favorites. The Hurricanes held the Blue Jackets to 32 shots, and Frederik Andersen posted 31 saves. The 33-year-old netminder hopes to build on his strong 2021-22 campaign. In his first season with Carolina, Andersen notched a 35-14-3 record with a shiny 2.17 GAA and .922 save percentage. The Canes’ defense was terrific last season, leading the league in goals against (2.44 per game), shots against (2,310), and penalty killing (88.0%).
