It’s a clash of Metropolitan Division teams on the ice as they do battle in the City of Brotherly Love. The Carolina Hurricanes are on the road as they make the trip up the east coast to face the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday night. Carolina was in action at home Friday night as they faced off with the Islanders. The Hurricanes took down the Canucks 3-2 on the road Monday night in their previous contest. Philadelphia knocked off Florida 4-3 at home Thursday night in their most recent contest. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Hurricanes own a 6-4 advantage and have won the last three matchups. That includes a 3-1 home win in the most recent matchup on March 12, 2022.

Carolina was in action against the Islanders Friday night at home so this marks the second game of a back-to-back set. The Hurricanes entered Friday tied for second in the Metropolitan Division with a 4-1-1 record, leaving them one point behind the Flyers for the top spot in the division race. Carolina stands tied for 11th in goals per game as they put up 3.33 goals per contest on the year. The Hurricanes are 3rd in goals against by allowing an average of 2.33 goals per night. Carolina stands tied for 14th in power play success as they cash in on 22.7% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Hurricanes are 17th in the league in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 78.3% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

In their game against the Canucks, the Hurricanes used a quick burst early in the third period to take control and hung on for the win. Carolina held a 15-7 advantage in the opening period of play but skated off tied at one after 20 minutes of action. Andrei Svechnikov opened the scoring with a power play goal, his seventh of the season, at 6:06 off assists from Martin Necas and Brent Burns. The Hurricanes gave up the equalizer later in the period. In the second period, Carolina held a 9-6 shot advantage with neither team denting the twine, leaving things even at one after 40 minutes. The third period saw the Hurricanes dominate the stanza, holding a 15-3 advantage in shots but only a 2-1 edge on the scoreboard though that was enough to secure the win. Sebastian Aho gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead 50 seconds into the stanza off assists from Seth Jarvis and Teuvo Teravainen. Only 37 seconds later at the 1:27 mark, Jesper Fast scored his first of the year off assists from Jordan Staal and Brady Skjei for a 3-1 advantage. The Hurricanes gave up a g oal midway through the stanza but hung on for the victory. Frederik Andersen made 14 saves for Carolina, who held a 39-16 edge in shots on goal, in the victory. With this being the second game of a back-to-back, Antti Raanta is slated to get the start in goal here with Andersen going Friday.
