The Carolina Hurricanes face the New York Islanders with both teams heading in opposite directions in the Metropolitan Division. The Hurricanes have a 28-9-8 record and are in first place in the division while the Islanders have a 23-19-5 record and with only two wins in the last 10 games have fallen to sixth place in the division. Both teams look to improve in the division and the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Hurricanes are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.18 goals per game. Martin Necas, Sebastian Aho, and Andrei Svechnikov have combined for 51 goals and 66 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Seth Jarvis, Stefan Noesen, and Jordan Martinhook have combined for 25 goals and 42 assists while defensemen Brent Burns and Brady Skjei have added 17 goals and 35 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has carried the Hurricanes, allowing only 2.67 goals per game with only nine goals in the last four games. Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce have combined for 6.5 defensive point shares and 103 blocked shots while Jaccob Slavin, Brent Burns, and Jalen Chatfield have combined for 7.2 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, Frederik Andersen is having a great seas on with a .907 save percentage and a 2.43 goals-against average on 290 shots.
