It’s an interconference battle on the ice when a team from the Metropolitan Division travels to the Land of 10,000 Lakes to face one from the Central Division. The Carolina Hurricanes are on the road as they make the trip west to face the Minnesota Wild Saturday night. Carolina fell short at home in their last game, losing 3-2 in overtime to Colorado, Thursday night. Minnesota was outgunned 6-4 at home by Pittsburgh in their previous contest Thursday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Hurricanes have won six of the last 10 meetings though the Wild have points in seven of the games (4-3-3) in that stretch. Minnesota has won the last two meetings, including a 3-1 road win in the most recent matchup on April 2, 2022.

Carolina battled but ended up falling short in overtime at home against Colorado in their previous contest. The Hurricanes entered Friday second in the Metropolitan Division standings, six points behind the Devils for the top spot. Carolina stands 22nd in goals per game as they put up 2.94 goals per contest on the year. The Hurricanes are 7th in goals against by allowing an average of 2.71 goals per night. Carolina stands 30th in power play success as they cash in on 15.2% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Hurricanes are 21st in the league in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 77.4% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Colorado, Carolina managed to earn a point but ended up falling in overtime to miss out on the second one. The opening period of the contest saw the Hurricanes hold a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal but they trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, Carolina held a 17-6 edge in shots on goal with each team scoring once, leaving them down 2-1 after two periods of play. Sebastian Aho tied the game with his eighth goal of the season off an assist from Martin Necas at the 7:14 mark of the stanza. The Hurricanes gave up the go-ahead goal later in the period. In the third period, Carolina held an 18-2 advantage in shots on goal and scored the lone goal to tie the score and force overtime. Necas knotted the game with his eighth goal of the season at 10:23 off an assist from Jaccob Slavin to force the extra session. In overtime, Carolina was outshot 2-1 and they gave up the winning goal at the 1:55 mark of the extra session to wind up with the loss. Antti Raanta made 12 saves for the Hurricanes, who held a commanding 48-15 advantage in shots on goal, in the loss. Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to get the start between the pipes for this contest.
