Cardinals vs. Cubs odds, picks: Advanced computer MLB model releases selections for Tuesday matchup

The St. Louis Cardinals visit the Chicago Cubs for a doubleheader that begins with a matinee contest at 2:20 p.m. ET on Tuesday. St. Louis is listed as a -190 favorite (risk $190 to win $100) at Caesars Sportsbook, while the Over-Under is set at 8.5 (see up-to-date'odds for every game this week on our MLB odds page). Before making any Cardinals vs. Cubs picks, you NEED to check out the MLB predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, and it is a 305-263 on top-rated MLB money-line picks since the start of the 2021 season. This is the same model that pegged the 2021 Atlanta Braves at 10-1 as one of three best bets to win it all last season. Anybody who has followed it has seen profitable returns.

The model knows the Cardinals have the offensive advantage. St. Louis ranks in the top five of the NL in runs scored and, led by MVP candidates in Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, the Cardinals have top-tier metrics. St. Louis ranks in the top three of the league in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, total bases and strikeout avoidance. The Cardinals are also near the top of the NL in hits, home runs, and stolen bases.

The model also knows the Cubs have team speed. Chicago ranks near the top of the NL in triples and stolen bases. The Cubs are also better on offense at home, including a slugging percentage above .400 for the season. On the mound, Chicago will deploy rookie Javier Assad for his MLB debut, and he has a 2.66 ERA in 23 minor league appearances this season, striking out 111 batters in 108 innings.
