The Calgary Flames face the Toronto Maple Leafs with both teams stumbling out of the gate to begin the season. The Flames have a 4-7-1 record and are near the bottom of the Pacific Division but have won back-to-back games. The Maple Leafs have a 6-5-2 record and with five losses in their last six games, they have fallen to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Both teams look to improve within their divisions and the upcoming game should be a good one.

The Flames are having a rough season with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.67 goals per game. Nazem Kadri, Elias Lindholm, and Andrew Mangiapane have scored eight goals and 14 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only two skaters have three goals or more and opposing defenses can limit the top-heavy offense with ease.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let them down, allowing 3.50 goals per game. MacKenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson have combined for 1.1 defensive point shares, but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to easily find open shots on the net. In addition, goaltender Jacob Markstrom has struggled with a .896 save percentage and a 2.91 goals-against average on 250 shots with -2.0 goals saved above average.
