The Calgary Flames face the Montreal Canadiens with both teams looking to improve from rocky starts to the season. The Flames have a 13-11-4 record and are coming off a rough overtime loss while the Canadiens have a 13-12-2 record and hope to rebound after losing three of their last four games. Both teams are looking to gain ground within their divisions and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Flames have looked promising this season behind an offense that has scored 3.04 goals per game including 18 goals in the last five games. Elias Lindholm, Nazem Kadri, and Tyler Toffoli have scored 30 goals and 34 assists to lead the top two lines but the entire offense has stepped up. Jonathan Huberdeau, Adam Ruzicka, and Mikael Backlund have combined for 15 goals and 34 assists while defensemen Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin have added seven goals and 26 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.07 goals per game including eight goals in their last two games. Nikita Zadorov and MacKenzie Weegar have combined for 3.4 defensive point shares and 72 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net. Additionally, goaltender Jacob Markstrom has struggled in the net with a .891 save percentage and a 2.93 goals-against average on 467 shots.
