Calgary opened as a slight +113 road underdog. Edmonton sat at -125 moneyline odds, and the totals were listed at 6.5 goals. These two foes meet for the first time since the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup when the Oilers beat the Flames in five games.
The Calgary Flames defeated the reigning NHL champions, the Colorado Avalanche, 5-3 in their opening clash of the 2022-23 season. Playing as -140 home favorites, the Flames erased an early deficit and built a 5-1 lead thanks to a couple of power-play goals in the third period. Five guys found the back of the net including Tyler Toffoli and Elias Lindholm, while defenseman MacKenzie Weegar accounted for a couple of dishes.

The Flames outshot the Avs 27-25 and took nine hits more than their rivals. Jacob Markstrom posted 22 stops, and the 32-year-old goalie should get another starting call Saturday when the Flames take on the Oilers’ dynamic offense. Markstrom went 2-2-0 with a 3.54 GAA and .884 save percentage in four meetings with Edmonton this past regular season.
Calgary was 50-21-11 in 2021-22, finishing atop of the Pacific Division with 111 points and a plus-87 goal difference, seven points ahead of the No. 2 Oilers. The Flames were scoring 3.55 goals per game (6th in the NHL) while surrendering 2.51 in a return (3rd). They ranked tenth in the league in power-play percentage (22.9%) and sixth in penalty-killing percentage (83. 2%).
