It’s a matchup of teams from the Big West on the hardwood between a pair of teams from the Golden State searching for a victory. The CSU Northridge Matadors are on the road as they travel to face the UC Irvine Anteaters Saturday night. CSU Northridge battled UC San Diego at home in their previous game Thursday night, losing 65-57 as they fell outright as a 1.5-point favorite. UC Irvine was on the road Thursday night as they took on CSU Fullerton, losing 62-61 to lose outright as a 3.5-point favorite. In the all-time series between the programs, the Anteaters own a 30-16 edge and have won 13 of the previous 14 meetings. That includes a 71-57 road win in the first meeting this season back on January 14.

CSU Northridge lost for the ninth time in 10 games as they were upended at home by UC San Diego in their previous game. The Matadors fell to 4-17 overall and are in the basement of the Big West with a 1-9 mark this season. Against UC San Diego, CSU Northridge trailed 11-2 early, rallied for a 17-15 lead and then gave up a 9-0 run to trail 24-17 with 6:57 to play in the opening half. The Matadors trailed by five at the half before giving up a 15-6 run to open the second half that put them down 48-34 with 11:38 to go. CSU Northridge never got closer than six with that coming in the final minute of the game. The Matadors shot 33.3% from the field, including six of 25 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 39-33. Atin Wright led the team with 18 points in the loss.

The Matadors enter this contest 341st in the nation in scoring offense with an average of 63.7 points per game. C SU Northridge pulls down an average of 34.1 rebounds per game this season while they stand 354th in the nation by dishing out 10.1 assists per contest. The Matadors are 114th in the nation in scoring defense as they allow 66.9 points per contest. Atin Wright leads the team with 14.4 points per game this season. Dionte Bostick (12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds) and De’Sean Allen-Eikens (10.4 points) are solid secondary scoring options. Coach Trent Johnson looks to guys like Dearon Tucker, Ethan Igbanugo, Christian Gray, Onyi Eyisi, Fidelis Okereke, Marcel Stevens, John Wade III and Cam Slaymaker for minutes and contributions during the year. CSU Northridge shoots 39.8% from the field as a team on the year. The Matadors knock down six triples a night while shooting 31.7% from beyond the arc.
