The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners are on the road as they make the in-state trip to face the Cal Poly Mustangs Wednesday night. CSU Bakersfield comes in off a 79-69 home loss to Long Beach State Saturday, failing to cover the line as a six-point underdog, in their previous game. Cal Poly was beaten 64-53 on the road by CSU Northridge in their previous game Saturday, losing outright as a one-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, the Roadrunners own a 9-1 advantage and have won the last nine meetings. That includes a 61-51 home win in the first matchup this season January 5.

CSU Bakersfield was unable to hang with Long Beach State their last time out, bringing an end to their three-game win streak in the process. The Roadrunners fell to 9-16 overall and stand eighth in the Big West with a 5-9 mark in conference play this season. Against Long Beach State, CSU Bakersfield was within one six minutes into the game only to give up a 23-6 run to trail by as many as 18 in the first half. The Roadrunners cut the margin to 12 at the half and eventually got within three with 6:20 to play before giving up an 11-2 run that left them down 74-62 with 3:02 remaining, sealing their fate. CSU Bakersfield shot 47.5% from the floor, including six of 18 from beyond the arc, and lost the rebounding battle 36-27. Cameron Smith led the Roadrunners with 16 points in the loss.

The Roadrunners are a below average unit on the offensive end of the floor as they are 354th in the nation w ith 61.4 points per game. CSU Bakersfield is 303rd in the nation in rebounding with 32.3 boards a night and 335th with 10.9 assists per contest. The Roadrunners are above average on the defensive end of the floor, ranking 45th in scoring defense by allowing 64.6 points per game. Kaleb Higgins is one of two players scoring in double figures as he puts up 13.1 points plus 3.9 assists per game on the year. Antavion Collum (12 points, five rebounds), Cameron Smith, Marvin McGhee III, Modestas Kancleris, Travis Henson, Ugnius Jarusevicius, Kaseem Watson, Ivan Reynolds, Cedquavious Hunter and Naseem Gaskin are also valuable pieces in the rotation for the team. The Roadrunners are shooting 42.5% from the field as a team on the year. CSU Bakersfield is knocking down 4.5 three-pointers a night while sinking 33.5% of their three-point attempts. The Roadrunners are above average at the free throw line as they convert 73.5% of their chances this season. Higgins is done for the season with a knee injury, forcing other players to step up offensively.
