Cal Poly vs. UCSB Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-2-2023

The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos go for their fifth straight win on Thursday as they host their Big West rivals, the Cal Poly Mustangs. The Gauchos are 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the Big West while the Mustangs are 7-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference. Santa Barbara beat Cal Poly back on January 7, but the Mustangs covered the spread as a 7.5 point underdog. Tipoff is at 10:00 p.m. EST at the Thunderdome in Santa Barbara.

The Cal Poly Mustangs have had an awful year at 7-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference. But they had one of their best games of the season against Santa Barbara. covering the spread in a 62-57 loss. But they have lost 9 in a row and their last two games were absolute blowouts. They got pummeled 72-50 by Long Beach State as a 4 point underdog on Thursday and got their doors blown in by Fullerton on Saturday in an ugly 65-35 loss.

These are not two Big West powerhouses that beat Cal Poly. Long Beach and Fullerton are both middlers in the conference and the Mustangs were only 4 point underdogs in both. There is really not a lot of highlights from this one — it was just ugly. Brantly Stevenson led the Cal Poly with 13 points while guard Kobe Sanders scored 11 points, and that was pretty much it. Allmany Koroma leads the Mustangs with 10.2 points per game while Trevon Taylor averages 10 points per game. They are ranked No. 311th in the nation and they have one of the worst offenses in America, averaging just 60 points per game.
