The 2022-23 college hoops betting action goes on Saturday, January 7, with the BYU Cougars facing off against the San Diego Toreros in the West Coast Conference battle at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, California. 

The tip-off is set for 8:00 PM ET, and the Cougars open as 4-point road favorites with a total of 147.0 points. BYU is undefeated in three straight meetings with San Diego and shoots for its third straight victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion.  

The BYU Cougars (12-6; 7-8-1 ATS; 2-1 conf.) are coming off Thursday’s 64-59 defeat at Loyola Marymount. They snapped a seven-game winning streak that started with an 83-80 victory over then-No. 21 Creighton, playing as slight 1-point road underdogs. 

It was a tight battle between the Cougars and Lions, who struggled to execute on the offensive end all night long. BYU shot 41.3% from the field and 2-for-13 from beyond the arc, while Loyola Marymount made 40.4% of its field goals (7-for-25 from deep) and 65.2% of its free-throw attempts (15-for-23). Sophomore forward Fousseyni Traore and senior F Gideon George accounted for 13 points apiece, while freshman guard Dallin Hall had ten points and four assists.

The Cougars lean on their defense, allowing 93.5 points per 100 possessions (39th in the nation) on 41.7% shooting from the field (124th). They rank fifth in the country in defensive rebound percentage. The Cougars score 102.7 points per 100 possessions (162nd) and make just 43.9% of their field goals (223rd). BYU is No. 96 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 84 in the KenPom rankings
