A pair of Big 12 opponents take the field trying to maintain their unblemished records on the gridiron down in the Sunflower State. The BYU Cougars are on the road as they travel to take on the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday afternoon. BYU remained unbeaten as they downed Arkansas on the road, 38-31, last Saturday as they won outright as a nine-point underdog. Kansas earned a 31-24 win over Nevada on the road last Saturday night in their previous game, though they failed to cover the line as a 28-point favorite. These teams have met just once previously as FBS opponents, which came when Kansas earned a 23-20 victory in the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu on December 25, 1992.

BYU managed to take down Arkansas on the road last week, winning as a nine-point underdog in Fayetteville, to run their mark to 3-0 on the season. The Cougars now look to earn a win in their first conference game since playing in the Mountain West back in 2010. Against Arkansas, BYU trailed 24-21 at the half and 31-21 with 11:41 to play in the third quarter before their defense stepped up. The Cougars held the Razorbacks scoreless the rest of the way as they scored the final 17 points of the game to earn the win. BYU prevailed despite getting outgained 424-281 in total offense. In addition, they gave up 21 first downs while picking up 17 and lost the time of possession by a 35:10 to 24:50 margin. On the plus side, BYU did force a pair of turnovers while committing just one in the contest.

The Cougars enter this week 74th in the nation in passing offense with an average of 232.3 yards per game through the air. BYU is 126th in rushing offense as they put up 78.3 yards per contest on the ground. The Cougars are 62nd in the FBS in scoring offense as they put up 31 points a night this season. BYU is 32nd in scoring defense as they allow an average of 15.7 points per game. Kedon Slovis is 55 of 90 passing for 660 yards with six touchdowns and one interception this season. He adds three touchdowns on the ground despite totaling -2 yards. Parker Kingston is one of one for 37 yards and a score. LJ Martin leads the team on the ground with 45 carries for 195 yards and two scores this season. Aidan Robbins (10 carries, 29 yards) and Deion Smith (12 carries, 19 yards, TD) have struggled in their opportunities this season. Chase Roberts leads the team with 13 catches for 138 yards and two scores on the year. Tight end Isaac Rex (10 receptions, 184 yards, TD), Darius Lassiter (nine catches, 116 yards, TD) and Kingston (six grabs, 78 yards, TD) are good options for Slovis to target as well. Will Ferrin has hit 12 of 13 extra point attempts and one of two field goal attempts with a long of 43 this season.
