BYU vs. Boise State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-5-2022

This Saturday, the (4-5) BYU Cougars will travel to Boise, ID to take on the (6-2) Boise State Broncos. Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM EST inside Albertsons Stadium. These two teams have split their last two matchups, as I am expecting a battle in this one.

The BYU Cougars are coming into this one after losing to the ECU Pirates, 27-24. The Cougars struggled on both sides of the field, but they surrendered 424 total yards of offense, as their defense will have to be better if they want to challenge the Broncos on the road.

The Boise State Broncos are entering this one after taking down Colorado State, 49-10. This game was never close, as the Broncos continued to march up and down the field against the Rams. They also only allowed CSU to record 170 total yards of offense, as their defense will look to replicate that performance in this one.

The BYU Cougars have now lost four games in a row, as they continue to fall in the wrong direction. On offense, the Cougars are scoring 29.4 points per game, and they are averaging 403 total yards of offense. This is the 66th most points scored per game and the 65th most yards averaged. They have shown that they can consistently move the ball through the air, as they are throwing for 252.6 passing yards per game, which is the 56th most in the country. Jaren hall will start at quarterback for BYU, as he has recorded 21 passing touchdowns this season and only three interceptions. He will look to get the ball to Puka Nacua, as he has recorded 382 receiving yards this season and three touchdowns. Last week, he caught seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars will also look to run the rock, as they are averaging 150.4 rushing yards per game, which is the 67th most in the country. Christopher Brooks, the Cougar's lead back, is li sted as doubtful for this game with a hamstring injury. Last week against ECU, Lopini Katoa led the team with 20 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, the Cougars are surrendering 31.1 points per game and 422.8 total yards. This is the 106th most yards allowed per game and the 104th most points. They've struggled to stop their opponents during this losing streak, as they have continued to struggle against the run. BYU is currently allowing 206 rushing yards per game, which is the 121st most in the nation. Their secondary has been much better, though. They are only allowing 216.8 passing yards per game, which is the 49th least in the country. Last week, they allowed ECU to pass for 197 yards, but they still gave up 227 yards on the ground. Ben Bywater continues to lead this defense, as he has recorded 69 tackles and one sack this season. Last week, he finished with 11 tackles against the ECU Pirates, as he was all over the field.
