Buffalo Sabres vs. Washington Capitals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-15-2023

The Buffalo Sabres face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to build off strong seasons and jump into a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres have a 33-28-5 record and following a 4-3 win, are only a few points out of wild card position in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals have a 32-28-7 record and are in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division but remain within striking distance of a wild card spot as well. Both teams look to improve in the Eastern Conference playoff picture and the upcoming game looks to be a great one.

The Sabres are having a promising season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.65 goals per game with four goals in their last game. Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and Jeff Skinner have scored 101 goals and 117 assists to lead the top two lines but the entire offense has been great this year. Dylan Cozens, Casey Mittelstadt, and Victor Olofsson have combined for 60 goals and 70 assists while defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power have added 18 goals and 71 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.61 goals per game. Dahlin and Power have combined for 6.8 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has struggled with a .894 save percentage and a 3.54 goals-against average on 911 shots with -10.5 goals saved above average.
