The Buffalo Sabres face the Toronto Maple Leafs with both teams on opposite ends of the standings to start the season. The Sabres have a 7-10 record and have lost seven games in a row while the Maple Leafs have a 9-5-4 record which is second-best in the Atlantic Division. Both teams are looking to improve in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Sabres are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.53 goals per game. Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and Jeff Skinner have scored 25 goals and 26 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also been great. Victor Olofsson, Dylan Cozens, and Casey Mittelstadt have scored 17 goals and 14 assists while defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Ower Power have added seven goals and 20 assists from the point to help open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has let the Sabres down, allowing 3.59 goals per game including 33 goals in the last seven games. While Dahlin and Power have combined for 2.2 defensive point shares, the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net.
