Two Atlantic division and Eastern Conference rivals face off on the ice Thursday when the Buffalo Sabres (28-23-4, 60 points, 12th Eastern Conference) pay a visit to Amalie Arena to play against the Tampa Bay Lightning (36-17-3, 75 points, 5th Eastern Conference). Buffalo lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 on Tuesday night snapping a two-game winning streak for the Sabres. Tampa Bay defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-1 on Tuesday night snapping a two-game losing streak. Buffalo is 12th in the Eastern Conference but only four points behind the eighth and final spot, while Tampa Bay is 5th and three points behind fourth place. Kale Clague is questionable for Buffalo. Tampa Bay does not have any players on its injury report.

Buffalo is scoring an average of 3.69 goals per game which is third highest in the NHL and the Sabres are averaging the 12th most shots per game at 32.4. Buffalo’s power play is sixth best, scoring 24.9% of the time the Sabres have the main advantage. Tage Thompson is the leading goal scorer for Buffalo with 36, while Alex Tuch is second with 27 goals. Alex Tuch is the leader in assists with 46 and Thompson is second with 36. Thompson is the points leader with 72 and Tuch has 62. Buffalo has scored 47 goals on the power play in 55 games.
