Things looked promising for the Braves last night as they had a 5-0 lead after the first inning. Unfortunately, their pitchers collapsed after that, meaning they could use a strong showing from today's starter, Jared Shuster. The rookie southpaw hasn't been all that great on the road, going 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in three away starts.
The good news for Atlanta is that Cincinnati starter Graham Ashcraft hasn't performed too well either. After recording a 2-0 record with a 2.00 ERA in his first six starts of the season, Ashcraft is 1-5 with a 12.72 ERA in his subsequent seven appearances. Today also marks his first start in over two weeks due to a calf injury, leaving time to tell if he'll be rusty.

With how shaky Shuster has been on the mount lately, it isn't hard to imagine De La Cruz tallying at least a pair of hits.
