It’s a Tuesday in November and you know what that means in the terms of college football: you guessed it, MACtion. The Bowling Green Falcons make the in-state trip as they face the Toledo Rockets in a crossover conference tilt Tuesday night. Bowling Green comes in off a 40-6 home trouncing at the hands of Kent State in their previous contest Wednesday, failing to cover as a three-point underdog. Toledo beat Ball State 28-21 at home last Tuesday in their previous contest, though they failed to cover the line as a 13.5-point favorite. In the all-time series between the programs, the Rockets own a 32-27-1 advantage and have won 11 of the last 12 meetings, including two straight. The Rockets claimed the most recent meeting, 49-17, on the road on November 10, 2021.

Bowling Green saw their three-game win streak snapped as they were bombed by Kent State at home in their previous contest. The Falcons fell to 5-5 overall on the season and are tied for second in the East Division of the MAC with a 4-2 conference mark. Against Kent State, Bowling Green played to a scoreless first quarter before giving up three second-quarter touchdowns to trail 20-0 at the half. The Falcons trailed 23-0 before getting on the board but got no closer than 17 in the contest. Bowling Green was outgained 415-311 in total offense, lost the first down battle 25-20 and turned the ball over three times while forcing one takeaway. Those numbers overshadowed the fact that the Falcons held a 33:59 to 26:01 edge in time of possession.

On the season, the Falcons are 84th in passing offense as they average 221.7 yards per game through the air while they are 111th in rushing o ffense with an average of 109.9 yards per contest. Bowling Green is a miserable 101st in the FBS in scoring offense with 23 points per game while they are 117th in scoring defense by allowing 32.6 points per contest. Matt McDonald has completed 194 of 310 passes for 2,027 yards with 17 touchdowns and four interceptions. Camden Orth is 18 of 32 passing for 175 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions on the books. The run game has been abysmal with Jamal Johnson ranking second on the team with 49 carries for 229 yards plus two scores. Jaison Patterson (107 carries, team-high 494 yards, TD), Ta’ron Keith (41 carries, 187 yards TD) and Nick Mosley (19 carries, 63 yards) have also seen action. In the passing game, Odieu Hiliare leads the team with 43 receptions for 450 yards plus four scores this season. Tight end Christian Sims (36 catches, 322 yards, two TD), Tyrone Broden (28 grabs, 392 yards, five TD) and CJ Lewis (23 catches, 324 yards, two TD) h ave all cracked the 300-yard mark in receiving yards on the year. Mason Lawler has hit all 26 extra point attempts and eight of 11 field goal attempts with a long of 45 this season.
