Bowling Green vs. Akron Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-1-2022

The Saturday the (1-3) Bowling Green Falcons and the (1-3) Akron Zips will matchup in the fifth week of the 2022 college football season. Kickoff will be at 3:30 PM EST inside InfoCision Stadium. Both of these teams will be looking for their second win of the season, as they haven't started the 2022 season how they would have liked.

The Bowling Green Falcons are coming into this one after falling to Mississippi State, 45-14. The Falcon's defense struggled to stop the pass, as they surrendered 420 passing yards. Their secondary will have to be better in this one if they want to challenge the Zips on the road.

The Akron Zips are entering this one after falling to Liberty, 21-12. The Akron offense struggled to consistently move the ball, as they didn't give themselves enough opportunities to score. They will need to efficiently move the ball if they want to have a chance in this game at home.

The Bowling Green Falcons have had a slow start to the season, but their offense is still putting up points. They are currently scoring 29 points per game and averaging 305 total yards. This is the 71st most points scored per game and the 113th most yards, as they have struggled to consistently move the ball down the field. They also lean on the pass, as they are throwing for 220 yards per game. This is the 89th most in the country, as this has been the easiest way for them to move the ball. The Falcon's starting quarterback is also listed as questionable, as you will want to check on his status before this game starts. Matt McDonald did not play last week, as he was hurt in the Marshall game two weeks back. Camden Orth will get the start if McDonald is still out. The Falcons will also look to get the ball to Jaison Patterson, as he leads the team with 83 rushing yards and one touchdown this season. Bowling Green is currently running fo r 85 rushing yards per game, which is the 122nd most in the country. They will look to pass the ball for the majority of the game, as they will need McDonald to be healthy for this one.

On defense, the Falcons are allowing 45 points per game and they are surrendering 520 yards. This is the 128th most points given up per game and the 129th most yards. They have continued to get shredded through the air, as their secondary is currently allowing 364 passing yards per game. This is also the 130th most in the country, as they were lit up by Mississippi State and UCLA to begin the year. The Falcons have been decent against the run this season, though. They are only surrendering 155.8 rushing yards per game, which is the 84th most. Their front seven has continued to rally towards the ball, as they have been much better against the run this season. I would recommend watching for Chris Bacon, as the senior safety currently leads the team with 27 tackles. He has been fl ying around the field all year.
