With a six-game winning streak entering play on Wednesday, the Red Sox were one of the league's hottest teams. Scoring has been Boston's strength this season, and this run is no exception. During the streak, Boston plated 50 runs, an average exceeding eight per game. Overall, the Red Sox are sixth in runs per game this season. Boston is top-five in strikeout rate, batting average, OBP, and doubles. They're also seventh in slugging percentage. Someone in the lineup is always capable of having a big day, and Rafael Devers is one of MLB's best at driving in runs.
Pitching is what will make or break this team moving forward, which is why Thursday's uncertain starter status doesn't bode well. Boston has moved up to 19th in staff ERA, led by MLB's sixth-best walk rate. The bullpen has also made major strides from 2022, ranking ninth in WAR before play on Thursday.
