The Red Sox arrived in Minnesota with their confidence back, particularly with their offensive production. The Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of hated-rival New York at home to finish the homestand with four straight wins and a 4-2 mark overall. The Red Sox had been scoring just over three and a half runs per game for a period of over two weeks but closed the homestand with 31 runs in the last four games. Back on the road on Monday night, the Red Sox made it five straight wins with a 9-3 win over the Twins. Starter James Paxton improved to 3-1 after allowing three hits and three runs in 6.1 innings while striking out seven. Triston Casas went 2-for-5 including a two-run home run in the win.

The Red Sox will give the ball to Kutter Crawford in game two as the right-hander tries to strengthen his position as a member of the Red Sox starting rotation. This will be Crawford's sixth start of the season and 14th appearance overall. Crawford is 1-3 on the season with an ERA of 4.20. Crawford has allowed 37 hits in 40.2 innings with a 9.1 K/9 rate and a WHIP of 1.13. On the road, Crawford is 1-2 in six appearance, including two starts.
