Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-1-2022

The Houston Astros (67-36) will host the Boston Red Sox (51-52) on ESPN in the opening game of a three-game series on Monday. The Red Sox took two out of three games against the Astros when these teams met earlier this season in May.

The Red Sox season has been a roller coaster. After getting off to a sluggish 11-20 start, Boston went on to win 31 of its next 42 games. The Red Sox have since cooled down and dealt with some key injuries. Over the last 30 games, Boston is now tied with the Nationals and Angels with a 9-21 record over that stretch. The toughest injuries to deal with have been Trevor Story (15 HR, 58 RBI), who has not played since July 12, and Rafael Devers (.324, 22 HR, 55 RBI), who last took the field on July 22.

Nathan Eovaldi (4-3, 4.43 ERA) is scheduled to start on Monday. He is 3-0 with a 2.56 on the road this season but just 2-3 with a 5.01 ERA in night games. Eovaldi will be challenged against the Astros lineup. Yordan Alvarez is 4-4 with a home run against Eovaldi, and active Astros batters collectively are batting .451 with eight home runs in 54 career at bats against him.
