Boston College is not a national contender, but it did experience the sensation in last week's home victory over number six Virginia. The Eagles embraced the spotlight, taking down a top-ten program for the first time since beating top-ranked Duke in 2017.

“I think they sensed, ‘Boy, I think we’re going to get these guys,’” Virginia coach Tony Bennett said. “As this thing wore on, you could feel the crowd get into it. They put us on our heels. It was a lot for some of our guys. We’ve got to learn from that because of what we’ve got coming up.”

BC shot 52 percent and held UVA to a season-low 32.2 percent, including 19.0 percent (4-for-21) from three-point range. The Eagles boasted a +5 rebounding margin and recorded seven steals. Senior guard Makai Ashton-Langford paced Boston College with 16 points, six rebounds , four assists, and two steals.

“I think we’re moving in the right direction,” said second-year coach Earl Grant, who took over at Boston College after spending seven seasons at the helm of College of Charleston. “I thought the night was a great test. We were excited about the challenge; we were excited going into it. We knew it would be hard, but we wanted to see what we were.”

The Eagles average 66.2 points per game (316th) and shoot 43.3 percent (261st), including 31.7 percent from three (314th). They hit 72.1 percent of their free-throw attempts (164th) and average 30.9 rebounds (241st) with a -0.5 rebounding margin. BC is 252nd in schedule-adjusted offensive efficiency, per KenPom.

The Eagles surrender 69.9 points per game on defense (184th), and their opponents shoot 44.1 percent from the floor (214th) with a 36.7 shooting percentage from deep (334th). Boston College is 107th in adjusted defensive efficiency.< /p>
