Boston College Eagles (0-1) vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (0-1)

The 2022 college football season continues Saturday, September 10, with Week 2 matchups, bringing plenty of interesting matchups around the country, including the Atlantic Coast Conference battle from Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia.  

Virginia Tech hosts Boston College as a small 3-point favorite with a total of 46.0 points. Their previous duel in Blacksburg saw the Hokies trounce the Eagles 40-14 as 13-point home favorites. Last year, Boston College upset Virginia Tech as a 1-point home dog, pulling off a 17-3 victory.

The Boston College Eagles kicked off the 2022 CFB season with a surprising 22-21 home loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Playing as 9-point favorites at Alumni Stadium, the Eagles blew a nine-point second-half lead. They were awful in the fourth quarter, allowing the Scarlet Knights to score ten unanswered points and escape with a big victory. Rutgers missed its starting QB Noah Vedral and still managed to upset the odds. 

“Sometimes it’s hard because you never get in a groove and you’re watching to see who is in and what are they going to run”, Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley said. “What did they throw the ball for? They netted 110 pass yards. So no, I’m not going to make excuses and say that was – we knew that th ey would be in the Wildcat. We knew the freshman would play; we knew the Simon kid would play”. 

The Eagles racked up 312 total yards and surrendered 322 in a return. They ran for a paltry 29 yards on 28 attempts, while Phil Jurkovec completed just 23 of his 41 passing attempts, finishing with 283 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Jurkovec also had a couple of fumbles. Zay Flowers posted ten catches for 117 yards and a couple of scores, and George Takacs added seven receptions for 84 yards.
