Boston College came within a field goal of knocking off Florida State in Chestnut Hill last season, dropping the matchup 31-29 in the mid-September clash.
Though the return trip to Tallahassee should provide Florida State the environment boost it needs to win this game more handily than it did against the Eagles last season, the spread seems out of alignment.
Georgia Tech scored an outright win against this time and churned out 190 rushing yards to control the pace while holding their own in time of possession.
Thomas Castellanos' contributions on the ground should help Boston College keep things close against a team struggling to stop the run.
Although new Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien's coaching tendencies likely indicate a higher passing rate than what the Eagles offe nse looked like a year ago, BC ranked 11th in FBS last season in rush attempts per game.
Returning Castellanos should at least mean keeping the run game as an emphasis due to the personnel. Florida State's first game saw measured possessions with the contest totalling 45 points. Georgia Tech had success filtering its offensive strategy through its rushing attack.
That figures to be a strategy that Boston College will replicate to some extent.
DraftKings and Caesars list the total at 50 points while FanDuel has dropped the number to 49.5. Since we're leaning Under, that takes value away from potentially playing this parlay at FanDuel.
Castellanos was a key figure in Boston College's upset bid over Florida State last season, rushing for 95 yards in the narrow loss.
The FSU game wasn't the only time in 2023 that Castellanos ran the football eff ectively. He cleared a 60 yards rushing in nine out of 13 games last year.
His tendencies should match up well against Florida State after the Noles were gashed on the ground by Georgia Tech. Of the 190 yards GT piled up in the run game, 54 came from QB Haynes King.
