Boston will continue its six-game road trip when it faces Portland on Friday night. The Celtics have won three of their last four games, beating Minnesota on Wednesday in a 104-102 final. Portland is on a four-game losing skid and needs to play perfect basketball down the stretch if it wants to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.
Boston went through a rough patch early in the season, losing three straight games against Brooklyn, New York and Cleveland, with two of those games going to overtime. The Celtics have bounced back from that brutal stretch with three wins in their last four games, which began with a 115-93 win over Portland last Wednesday. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 30 points in that win, and he followed it up with a 34-point effort at Atlanta last Saturday. Their lone loss during this stretch came at Houston on Monday in a 111-109 shocker, as they were 13-point favorites in that game.

They responded with a 104-102 win against Minnesota on Wednesday, even though they were unable to cover the 4-point spread. Jaylen Brown scored 35 points and Tatum added 22 for Boston, which shot just 40.5% from the floor. The Timberwolves had a chance to take the lead on a 3-pointer with 32 seconds remaining, but they wound up trailing for the final three quarters of the game. Boston is 2.5 games back of Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference standings and is one game ahead of Philadelphia for second place. Tatum is scoring 30.1 points per game to lead a Boston offense that ranks fourth in the NBA in scoring (117.5). They are facing a Portland defense that is No. 19 (115.9).
