The Boston Celtics want to prove that last year's run to the NBA Finals was not a fluke and have started the season in grand fashion by upending two Eastern Conference power teams in Philadelphia and Miami. The Celtics, the NBA's #1 defense in 2021-22, have done it with their offense thus far. The Celtics have shot over 50% in each of their first two games and gotten marquee performances from their two stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, in each win. The duo combined for 70 points in the opening night win over Philadelphia with each scoring 35 points and then combined for 57 points on Friday night in a 111-104 win over the Heat. They are now 2-0 under interim coach Joe Mazzulla and get set for the second half of this first back-to-back set on Saturday in Orlando.

“We’ve got a great team and we’re still trying to figure each other out,” Tatum said. “And I love playing agains t the Heat. We’ve got some history here the last couple years, and they push you. They make you a better team. They’ve got a lot of fire, a lot of great players, a great coach.”

The Celtics played nine players against the Heat on Friday night with a number of players getting DNPs including newcomer Blake Griffin and one of last year's key contributors, Payton Pritchard. Expect both to see action on Saturday night as Mazzulla likely extends his bench on the second night of back-to-backs. Boston has had outstanding shooting through two games but, one area of concern, the team continues to turn the ball over more than they'd like. In the opener against Philadelphia, Boston had just 11 turnovers but followed that up with 19 on the road against Miami. Golden State exposed some of the ball handling weaknesses of the Celtics last year in the Finals and the team will likely address their carelessness with the ball on Friday night.
