The Florida Panthers lost game one to Boston 3-1 despite outplaying the Bruins for much of the game. The Panthers outshot and outhit the Bruins but fell on the short end after a soft Bruins goal gave them a cushion. In game two, the Panthers never trailed in the game and poured in four goals in the third period to pull away for a 6-3 win. Brandon Montour scored two of the Panthers' four straight goals in the third period as the Panthers got the NHL's best goalie, Linus Ullmark, to put the game away.

“In a perfect world, it would have been great to steal two, but after Game 1 this was all that was on our mind,” said Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk, who had two assists. “We’re going back to Florida even. We’ll take the split and run.”

The stats flipped in game two for the Panthers and so did the results. In game two, the Panthers shooting percentage improved after scoring six goals on 30 shots. The Panthers lost the face-off battle in game one but rebounded to win 53% of the face-offs in game two. The Panthers were also able to outscore the Bruins in the third period, a feat rarely accomplished this season to the NHL's top team. Goalie Alex Lyon was also sharp, turning away 34-of-37 shots.
