Don't look now NHL, but here come the Bruins again. After suffering through their first four-game losing streak since 2019, the Bruins have now rallied for three straight wins including a 5-3 win over the Red Wings on New Year's Eve. Trent Frederic scored two goals and red-hot Charlie Coyle had the go-ahead score, his third goal in two games, to lead the Bruins to a 5-3 win on the road. Defensemen Charlie McAvoy had three assists and goalie Jeremy Swayman picked up his second straight win after turning away 25-of-28 shots. Boston completed the sweep of a back-to-back after downing the Devils in Boston on Saturday night.
“We have a tough travel with a 5 o'clock game, but we had really good energy and it was nice to pull that one off,” Frederic said. “Call it a little bit of a gutsy win.”
The Bruins have bounced back from a four-game skid to pull off three straight wins and soar back just behind the Rangers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Bruins are 15th in the league in goals per game. They are 21st in shots on net and 17th in shooting percentage. The Bruins have been exceptionally good on the power play this season, ranking fifth in the NHL. The B's have been much better defensively. They rank fifth in goals allowed per game this season. They are 12th in shots allowed this season but first in save percentage. The Bruins are also third on the penalty kill this season.
