Blackhawks vs. Red Wings Odds, Picks, Predictions: Detroit Looks to Snap Winless Streakiv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

Mired in a six-game winless slide, the Detroit Red Wings aim to get back into the win column in Wednesday's home game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Here's sports betting analyst Scott Cullen's top NHL pick based on the best NHL odds.

When Chicago and Detroit face off Wednesday night, one of these struggling teams will mercifully earn two points.

Less than a month ago, the Red Wings had won seven of eight games and looked like they could be creeping back into the playoff picture. Since then, the Wings have gone 0-5-1 while being outscored 27-9 and are eight points back of Pittsburgh for the second East wild-card spot.

The Blackhawks are in 31st in the league standings with 49 points in 63 games, but are coming off a 5-0 win over Ottawa on Monday that halted a four-game losing streak.

Here is our best Blackhawks vs. Red Wings NHL pick (odds via DraftKings; pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Blackhawks vs. Red Wings pick

Goals will be at a premium in Detroit on Wednesday.

The Red Wings have scored 1.49 goals per 60 minutes during their six-game slide, the lowest rate in the league over that span. And based on their No. 32 rank in expected goals in that stretch, they aren't even getting chances to score.

It doesn't help matters that the Wings traded their top scoring defenseman, Filip Hronek, as well as forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Oskar Sundqvist. Combined with an injury to Michael Rasmussen, the roster shake-up has left Detroit struggling to score.

On the other side, the Blackhawks aren't exactly lighting it up in a small sample, either. Chicago ranks 26th with 2.30 goals per 60 since Feb. 24, and sits 28th with 2.54 expected goals per 60 over that same period.

In Chicago's case, the lack of scoring is more predictable. The Blackhawks are averaging a league-low 2.45 goals per 60 minutes for the season and traded their top two scorers, Max Domi and Patrick Kane. Jonathan Toews remains out indefinitely with an illness.

That leaves Taylor Raddysh and Andreas Athanasiou, both with 14 goals, as Chicago's top active scoring threats.

League rules stipulate that one of these teams is required to win on Wednesday night. It could be ugly and, based on recent performance, there won't be a lot of scoring.

Blackhawks vs. Red Wings best odds

DraftKings FanDuel BetMGM Caesars PointsBet
Blackhawks-Red Wings Under 6 Blackhawks-Red Wings Under 5.5 Blackhawks-Red Wings Under 6 Blackhawks-Red Wings Under 6 Blackhawks-Red Wings Under 6
-115 ?? +106 -115 -115 -121

Most of our best sportsbooks lean toward Under 6, with DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars all at -115. PointsBet offers slightly less value on the U6.

FanDuel, on the other hand, sits at 5.5 with the Over at -130 and the Under at +106. While I like this game to be lower scoring, I'm more comfortable taking the total of 6, which leaves room for a push with an empty net goal in a 3-2 game.

Blackhawks vs. Red Wings odds analysis

FanDuel opened with the Red Wings as heavy favorites at -250, compared to the Blackhawks at +202.

Even though 67% of the consensus moneyline wagers have landed on Detroit, that line has not shifted at FanDuel.

The total opened at 5.5, with opening odds at -130 for the Over and +106 for the Under. That number is lower than most of the top sportsbooks, but 59% of consensus wagers have been on the Over – and that includes books that have the total at 6.
