The San Francisco 49ers pulled off a shocking move on Thursday night, trading several draft picks for Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Panthers received second-, third- and fourth-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft and a fifth-rounder in 2024 in return for McCaffrey.
At 1-5, the Panthers are squarely in the midst of a rebuild, while the 49ers are pushing their chips all-in for this season. The 3-3 49ers were 25-1 to win the Super Bowl at DraftKings Sportsbook and moved to 16-1 after the deal. The Panthers moved from 500-1 to 700-1 to win the Super Bowl, the third-longest shot in the NFL behind the Chicago Bears and Houston Texas at 1,000-1.
One bettor at DraftKings wagered $2,000 on San Francisco to win the Super Bowl at 16-1 after the trade.
