Best NBA player prop bets for today, 1/17: Murray takes over for the Nuggets

There are just 4 games on the NBA slate tonight. Nonetheless all should be interesting encounters. The Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks will be jostling for the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference as they take on the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors respectively. Then to close out the night the Philadelphia 76ers will be taking on the Los Angeles Clippers on TNT. With Joel Embiid locking horns against Kawhi Leonard, that one should provide some fireworks. Be sure to read our'NBA predictions for each of tonight's games, but for now, let's dive int o my best NBA player prop picks.

The Denver Nuggets have taken on the Portland Trail Blazers on 3 occasions so far this season. Jamal Murray is averaging 18 points per game in those contests. That average is brought down by an 8-point performance early in the season when he was still coming back form injury. He is in fine form now, scoring over 20 against this opponent in 2 straight games and averaging 20.3 points per game in January. With Jusuf Nurkic not being the most mobile big in the paint, Murray should have success attacking in pick and roll situations here. Damian Lillard is far from a terrific on ball defender either. Do not be surprised to see the point guards get involved in a shootout tonight.

Kyrie Irving will get to go up against once of the worst defensive teams in the league tonight as he takes on the San Antonio Spurs. The hosts are just 29th in defensive rating over the last 10 games and have give up 130 or more points in 3 straight games. With Kevin Durant out, Irving should see increased usage tonight. He was able to score 27 points in 29 minutes on 78.6% shooting from the field when the sides last met. The conditions seem set for him to break past that mark tonight. Up against him will be Tre Jones who simply lacks the size to effectively impact the superstar. The Nets will lean heavily on Irving tonight, and he has the tool kit to deliver here.
