Talk about two teams that are basically mirror images of each other. Both teams get consistent pitching, play fundamentally sound defense, hit for contact, run the bases well, and play opportunistic baseball. This game screams under to me as well, but it’s hovering around 5.5 or 6 everywhere and that’s just too low for me to bet. I’m going to go with the Guardians -0.5 in the 1st Half for a few reasons.

First, Cleveland is at home where they had a 46-35 record this season. It’s the battle of the Shanes on the mound in Game 1, McClanahan for the Rays vs Bieber of the Guardians. McClanahan was a top 3 Cy Young contender most of the season, but after his IL stint in early September he hasn’t been quite the same. McClanahan hasn’t gone more than 5.0 IP in 4 starts off the IL, and in his last three starts he’s allowed a combined 11 ER in 14.0 IP (granted against good competition in the Astros and Blue Jays). He’s got just 7 Ks in those three starts, and Cleveland is a team that thrives on making contact.

If McClanahan isn’t striking out batters tonight, Cleveland should get the better of the pitching matchup. At home, the Guardians are the lean and why they’re one of our Top MLB Prop Bets for October 7th.
