One key to being a profitable bettor is to wager with your brain and not your heart. Entering every NFL season, for example, the Cleveland Browns take a ton of action to'win the Super Bowl'because their fans are simply so desperate for the Browns to reach the big game for the first time. It obviously hasn't worked out yet. The Chicago Bears are similar in that it doesn't matter what the team's roster looks like: They are going to take a lot of action.
Despite being a historically inept passi ng team thus far, the Bears are a surprising 2-2. Chicago ranks last in the NFL in the following categories: Total passing yards (390 – five NFL receivers have more yards), passing yards per game (97.5), completions (34) and attempts (67). Justin Fields looks overmatched, although he has terrible skill position talent and a bad offensive line. Chicago is second-to-last in scoring (16.0) and in overall yards per game (274.8).
Few expect more than six wins on the season for Chicago, which is currently set at 5.5 at Caesars. Yet since the season kicked off, the Bears (+25000) have received more bets to win the Super Bowl than 12 other teams. I'd sure like to know those other 12 teams.
On the flip side, there have been more than 1,000 total bets placed at Caesars of at least $1,000, and 30 of the 32 teams have received at least one. The only two that haven't? Chicago and winless Houston. The Bears beat the Texans 23-20 in Week 3 in what also could be the lone game this season in which the Monsters of the Midway are favored.
