Baltimore saw their bats do the job to make up for a shaky pitching staff as they beat the A’s Thursday to take three of four in the series. The Orioles improved to 7-6 on the season and stood fourth in the AL East, six games behind the Rays for the top spot, going into Friday’s action. Against Oakland, Baltimore got three hits from Austin Hays (two runs) while  Terrin Vavra (run) and Ryan O’Hearn (three RBI) each added a pair. Ryan Mountcastle (his sixth) and Adley Rutschman (his fourth) each homered in the game, with Rutschman’s shot a walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth. Cole Irvin didn’t factor in the decision as he threw four innings, allowing six runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Felix Bautista (1-0) worked a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out two, to earn the win in relief.

Kyle Gibson is on the mound as he makes his fourth start of the season for the Orioles in this contest, looking to maintain his strong start. He comes in 3-0 with a 3.44 ERA, a 1.145 WHIP, four walks and 12 strikeouts over 18.1 innings of work this season. Gibson earned the win in his last start, which came Monday at home against Oakland.
