Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-26-2022

The Baltimore Orioles travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox in a four-game set to start the week with their playoff hopes dwindling. The Orioles are four games back of Seattle for the final wildcard spot with just ten days left in the regular season. For the Red Sox, they still have an outside shot of avoiding a losing season in 2022. The pitching matchup for Monday night will feature right-hander Jordan Lyles (11-11, 4.50) of the Orioles taking on Red Sox rookie right-hander Connor Seabold (0-3, 10.47). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm EST.

The Orioles appeared to be done just a week ago before the Seattle Mariners started to struggle. Then, after three-straight wins, there was optimism once again that the Orioles just might have a playoff shot. After two tough losses to the Astros this weekend, however, it is highly unlikely the Orioles have enough time to catch the Mariners. On Sunday, in their final home game in front of the Orioles faithful, Houston scored four times in the top of the 11th and that was enough to hang on for a 6-3 win. Baltimore blew an opportunity to gain a game on the Mariners, who lost earlier in the day.

The Orioles are in the midst of their best season in more than half a decade. The key to their success this season has been an underrated pitching staff that continues to defy the experts. This week, the Orioles nearly had back-to-back complete games, falling just a 1/3 of an inning short of pulling off the feat. This from a team that hadn't had a complete game since May of 2021. On the mound on Monday night is the owner of the most recent complete game, Jordan Lyles. Lyles leads the team with 11 wins and looks to get over .500 with a win on Monday. Against Boston this season, he is 1-1 with a 8.00 ERA. He has let up 32 hits in just 18 innings of work in the four games.
