Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-1-2023

After a day off Friday, a pair of teams from the AL East continue a series on the diamond up in Beantown. The Baltimore Orioles are on the road as they play the middle game of a three-game set with the Boston Red Sox Saturday afternoon. In the season opener Thursday afternoon, Baltimore overcame the chilly weather at Fenway Park to jump in front early and hung on for a 10-9 victory to draw first blood in the season series. The Red Sox took the season series last year by a margin of 10-9 but they find themselves down a game already this season. Will Boston build from their late rally or will the Orioles pound them into the ground again?

Baltimore shook off the chilly temperatures at game time and piled up runs before having to hang on to secure the win on Opening Day. The Orioles, who finished 83-79 in 2022 for their first winning season since 2016, look to bolt to a 2-0 start on the year here. Against Boston Thursday, Baltimore banged out 15 hits, drew nine walks and stole five bases en route to the win. Adley Rutschman (run, four RBI) had five hits in the game while Anthony Santander, Adam Frazier (three runs) and Jorge Mateo (two runs, RBI) each added two. Rutschman (his first) and Ramon Urias (his first) each homered in the contest. Kyle Gibson (1-0) earned the win as he allowed four runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts over five innings. Felix Bautista worked the ninth, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts, for his first save.

Dean Kremer is on the mound for the Orioles here as he makes his first start of the season. He made 22 appearances, 21 starts, for Baltimore last season, posting an 8-7 record with a 3.23 ERA, a 1.253 WHIP, 34 walks and 87 strikeouts over 125.1 innings of work. Kremer was 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA, a 1.018 WHIP, three walks and 16 strikeouts, though he did give up seven homers, in 18.2 innings in five spring appearances, four starts. This marks Kremer’s sixth career start against the Red Sox and he’s hoping to break through against them. He comes into this game 0-4 with a 6.85 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, 11 walks and 17 strikeouts over 23.2 innings of work. Kremer is 0-3 with a 9.45 ERA, a 2.025 WHIP, eight walks and 10 strikeouts over 13.1 innings in three career starts at Fenway Park.
