A pair of teams from the West Division of the MAC take the field in search of an early week victory on the gridiron in the Land of Lincoln. The Ball State Cardinals are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies Tuesday night. Ball State comes in off a 24-21 road loss to Ball State in their previous contest Wednesday night, covering the line as a five-point underdog. Northern Illinois was knocked off 37-31 on the road by Central Michigan in their previous game last Tuesday, losing outright as a 6.5-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, the Huskies own a 25-23-2 advantage but the Cardinals have won three of the last four meetings, including a 44-38 home win in the most recent matchup on October 1, 2022.

Ball State hung tough against Bowling Green but was unable to find a way to put the game in the win column as they fell short, though they did manage to cover the line. The Cardinals dropped to 2-7 overall and stand last in the West Division of the MAC with a 1-4 conference mark. Against Bowling Green, Ball State never led but rallied three times from seven-point deficits to tie the game before giving up the winning field goal with 3:14 to play in the game. The Cardinals held a slim 283-281 edge in total offense, picked up 16 first downs while allowing 14 and controlled the clock by a 33:34 to 26:26 margin yet still lost. Turnovers proved to be the issue as they committed two turnovers without recording a takeaway.

For the season, the Cardinals are 126th in the nation in passing offense with 149.4 yards per game through the air while they are 83rd in rushing offense with 144.2 yards per contest. Ball State is 132nd in the FBS in scoring offense with 16.7 points per game and 92nd in scoring defense as they allow an average of 28.4 points per contest. Kadin Semonza is 50 of 82 passing for 480 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 10 yards on the ground. Layne Hatcher (61 of 95, 565 yards, four TD, INT) and Kiael Kelly (33 of 66, 300 yards, INT, 434 rushing yards, four TD) have seen action under center as well. Marquez Cooper leads the team on the ground with 146 carries for 674 yards and three scores this season. Rico Barfield (25 carries, 96 yards, TD) and Charlie Spegal (11 carries, 59 yards, TD) are the next guys up in the run game. Tight end Tanner Koziol is second on the team with 29 receptions for 247 yards and two scores this season. Qian Magwood (34 grabs, 309 yards, TD), Ahmad Robinson (20 catches, 250 yards, TD), Cooper (14 grabs, 132 yards) and Ty Robinson (six catches, 111 yards, TD) have each crac ked the century mark in receiving yards this season. Jackson Courville has hit all 18 extra point attempts and eight of 11 field goal attempts with a long of 37 this year.

Robinson (thumb) is done for the season, taking a receiving option out of the mix.
