Ball State vs. Indiana State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-12-2022

It’s a non-conference battle of mid-major programs from the Hoosier State on the hardwood when the MAC tangles with the MVC at the alma mater of one Larry Joe Bird. The Ball State Cardinals are on the road as they make the trip to face the Indiana State Sycamores Saturday afternoon. Ball State opened their 2022-23 campaign by routing Earlham College, a Division III program, 109-39 Monday at home. Indiana State cruised to an easy 80-53 victory over Green Bay at home, covering the 17-point line, in their season opening contest Monday. Ball State had little problem dispatching an overmatched Division III program in Earlham College at home to open their season. The Cardinals now face a tougher matchup here as they contend with a fellow Division I program and go on the road to do it. Winning on the road was a challenge for Ball State last season as they went 4-9 as the visiting team in addition to posting a 1-3 record on neutral floors. The Cardinals at least got their feet wet but there was no challenge in their opener. This contest will prove to be a little more of a litmus test for Ball State and new coach Michael Lewis, who took over after leaving UCLA, where he was an assistant, to take over for the fired James Whitford.

Against Earlham College, the game wasn’t hanging in the balance for long as Ball State laid the wood to the visiting team en route to a one-sided triumph. Leading by two just over three minutes into the game, the Cardinals reeled off a 16-0 run to take a 23-5 advantage and were on their way to a victory. Ball State led 55-19 at the half and kept a similar margin in the second half as they outscored the Quakers 54-20 in the second half en route to the win. The Cardinals shot a blistering 61.2% from the field despite going four of 17 from three-point range and held Earlham College to 24.6% shooting. Ball State forced 22 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 53-30 in the contest. Demarius Jacobs paced six players in double figures with 19 points and six assists in the win. Kaiyem Cleary contributed 17 points, Payton Sparks put up 15 points with eight boards, Basheer Jihad along with Mickey Pearson Jr. (13 rebounds) each scored 13 points and Jalen Windham (six boards, five assists, four steals) added 10 in the victory.
