Sunday Betting Recaps
Sunday was another busy sports betting day and it started early for those following the international sporting scene.
We started with Breakfast at Wimbledon and it turned into brunch as Carlos Alcarez upset Novak Djokovic in a five-set marathon that lasted 4 hours, 42 minutes (the third longest final in Wimbledon history). Despite being the current No. 1 player in the world, Alcarez was a +165 underdog vs. the seven-time Wimbledon champion and became the third-youngest men’s champ behind Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg at 20 years and 72 days. I watched Borg and Becker as I was growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, but it made me feel older when Alcarez joked about watching Djokovic when he was growing up! We also saw Rory McIroy rally to win the Scottish Open with back-to-back birdies on the final two holes. McIlroy was the 9-1 second choice behind Scottie Scheffler and 5-4 coming into Sunday. That was a Bad Beat for those who had Robert McIntrye at around 80-1 before the tourney and/or 150-1 heading into the final round. Let’s get to our regularly scheduled nightly betting recaps, led by MLB, then update the season-long betting stats. MLB: Favorites went 10-5 on Sunday (30-15 since the All-Star Break) with the upsets by the Rockies (+200 in 8-7 win vs. Yankees), Royals (+190 in 8-4 win vs. Rays), White Sox (+160 in 8-1 win at Braves), Red Sox (+132 in 11-5 win at Cubs) and Brewers (+127 in 4-3 win at Reds). Home teams went 9-6. Overs led 11-4. More MLB: On the season, faves improved to 801-566 with 22 games closing pick-'em. Home teams lead 718-669 with 4 neutral-site games, though road teams have been cutting into lead lately. Unders' lead has been cut back down to 668-663-59 with 1 no-action.
