Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-2-2023

Atlanta will try to complete a season-opening three-game sweep when it faces Washington on Sunday afternoon. The Braves opened the series with a 7-2 win on Opening Day before cruising to a 7-1 win on Saturday. They have now won 15 of the last 18 head-to-head meetings between these teams.

Atlanta entered the season with much higher expectations than Washington, and the reasons for that have certainly shown thus far. The Braves opened the series by scoring three runs in the second inning and adding four more throughout the game to pick up a 7-2 win. Designated hitter Travis d’Arnaud racked up four hits and drove in two runs, while Ronald Acuna, Matt Olson and Ozzie Albies each had multiple hits. Atlanta cruised to another dominant win on Saturday, with starting pitcher Spencer Strider striking out nine batters in the 7-1 win. Shortstop Orlando Arcia had a team-high three hits and scored a pair of runs.

Olson had another two-hit game for Atlanta as he looks to improve on a disappointing batting average during his first year with the Braves. Atlanta was one of the league’s best offensive teams in 2022, ranked ninth in the majors in batting average (.253). The Braves are facing a Washington pitching staff that was No. 29 in team ERA (5.00) last year. Rookie left-hander Jared Shuster is going to be on the mound for Atlanta on Sunday. The 24-year-old was added to the official roster earlier this week after posting a 3.29 ERA across 139.1 innings in the minors last year. He was dominant in spring training, finishing with a 1.45 ERA in 18.2 frames.
