The Atlanta Braves continued their recent dominance of the Nationals with a win on Opening Day in DC. Travis d'Arnaud led the way with four hits in the DH role, including a two-run double in the ninth inning to give the Braves a healthy cushion in the 7-2 win. All wasn't perfect for the defending NL East champions, however, as NL Cy Young runner-up Max Fried had to leave the game with a strained left hamstring after injuring himself after trying to cover first base on a ground out. Fried will likely miss his next start and end up on the 10-day injured list.

“I'm going to make sure that I'm doing everything I can (so) when I do take that mound again, I'm ready to go,” said Fried, who finished second to Miami's Sandy Alcantara in Cy Young voting last year.

The Braves will give the ball to fireballing right-hander Strider in game two of the series. Strider finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting last year after finishing 11-5 in 31 games, including 20 starts. Strider struck out 202 batters in just 131.2 innings while walking just 45 and allowing just 86 hits. Strider had a 5.54 ERA in two starts against the Nationals last season, allowing eight hits in 13 innings while striking out 18 batters.

Key Injuries: Fried is out. RP Raisel Iglesias was placed on the 15-day IL.
