Atlanta suffered their first road series loss of the season as they were swept north of the border by the Blue Jays after Sunday’s walk-off loss. The Braves entered Monday’s action 25-15 on the year and led the NL East by five games over the Phillies in the standings. On Sunday, Atlanta got two hits each from Ronald Acuna Jr. (two runs, RBI) and Austin Riley to pace a 10-hit attack, only to fall short. Kevin Pillar (his fourth), Ozzie Albies (his 10th) and Acuna Jr. (his eighth) each went deep in the loss. Collin McHugh started and didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 1.2 innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Raisel Iglesias (0-1) took the loss in relief as he allowed two runs on three hits with one walk and no strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning.

The Braves have yet to officially announce a starting pitcher f or this contest but signs are pointing to Jared Shuster getting the call for his third start of the year. He is 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA, a 2.423 WHIP, nine walks and five strikeouts over 8.2 innings of work in the majors this season. Shuster didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came April 7 at home against the Padres. He threw four innings, allowing four runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in a game the Braves eventually dropped 5-4. In his third career major league start, Shuster faces the Rangers for the first time. As a result, this is his first career outing at Globe Life Field. Shuster is 2-0 with a 3.28 ERA, a 1.371 WHIP, 14 walks and 23 strikeouts over 24.2 innings in five starts with Triple-A Gwinnett of the International League.
