Atlanta swept a three-game set from the Royals on the road over the weekend to run their win streak to six games entering Monday’s opener. The Braves went into Monday night’s action holding the top spot in the NL East with a 12-4 record, leaving them two games ahead of the Mets. On Sunday, Ronald Acuna Jr. (run) and Ozzie Albies (two runs, RBI) each had two hits to lead the Braves’ seven-hit attack. Albies hit his third homer of the season in the win. Kyle Wright didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Nick Anderson (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless eighth, striking out one, while A.J. Minter worked a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one, for his third save.

Spencer Strider is on the mound for Atlanta as he logs his fourth start of the season in this contest. He comes in 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.188 WHIP, eight walks and 27 strikeouts over 16 innings of work this season. Strider didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came against the Reds at home Wednesday night. He threw five innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in a game the Braves went on to win 5-4. Strider makes his fourth career appearance and second start against the Padres in this contest. He has no record with a 4.66 ERA, a 1.241 WHIP, six walks and 14 strikeouts over 9.2 innings of work against them. Strider didn’t factor in the decision in his lone career outing at Petco Park, which came in relief on April 17, 2022.
