Atlanta blew an early lead and ended up on the short end of the scoreboard in the finale of their four-game series against the Pirates in the Steel City Thursday afternoon. The Braves entered Friday 72-41 on the season and held a 9.5-game lead over the Phillies for the top spot in the NL East. On Thursday, Atlanta got three hits from Austin Riley (RBI) while Matt Olson (run, RBI) and Travis d’Arnaud (run) each added a pair in the loss. The Braves led 4-0 after two and a half innings only to get outscored 7-1 the rest of the way. Orlando Arcia (his 13th) and Olson (his 40th) each went deep in the loss for the Braves. Bryce Elder (8-4) took the loss as he allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts over five innings of work.

The Braves have not officially named a starter but the expectation is that Michael Soroka will come back up from the minors to ma ke his seventh appearance and sixth start of the season. He is 2-1 with a 5.52 ERA, a 1.466 WHIP, 11 walks and 23 strikeouts over 29.1 innings of work. Soroka earned the win in his last start, which came back on July 21 against the Brewers on the road. He threw six innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts in a 6-4 Atlanta victory. In his last three starts, Soroka is 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, five walks and 11 strikeouts over 13.2 innings of work. Soroka makes his eighth career start against the Mets in this contest. He is 4-1 with a 3.08 ERA, a 1.105 WHIP, eight walks and 25 strikeouts over 38 innings of work against them. Soroka is 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA, a 1.114 WHIP, two walks and 19 strikeouts over 23.1 innings of work in four career starts at Citi Field.
